Ada May Rothwell was christened on 31 Oct 1915 at Christ Church, Aughton, Lancashire. As a teenager she
was involved with the May Queen ceremonies for two consecutive years, in 1929 she was crowned as May
Queen and the following year, on 10 May 1930, she was responsible for crowning new May Queen Margaret Sholicar.
After marriage, she lived at Holin House Green Farm in Aughton, one of two farms owned by her uncle James
(Jim) Rothwell, who had no children of his own, but early in their marriage, they lived at Swan Farm, Aughton.
Their eldest son Joseph died at the age of 14 months in 1940 and as Joseph and Ada had not acquired a burial plot,
the baby was buried in the grave of Joseph’s brother Robert.
