An interesting point to note with the records of this particular surname is the sheer number of variant
spellings that were used. Although spellings were not always consistent in the past, even as early as
1764 (when William and Susan's eldest child Thomas was christened), whoever noted the baptism date
offered Myerscough as an alternative interpretation of "Masco". The variants I have located so far are
Mascow, Masco, Myerscough, Maskew, Maskea and Mascoe. Unfortunately I have not yet established the
fate of John or Henry, William and Susan's fourth and sixth children and I cannot find a christening for their
daughter Mary.
