Dring Dynasty
In a revised approach to the way I present the information on my numerous Dring connections, I am experimenting
with a new format. To find the relevent ancestor that connects each generation back down to myself, please look for
the child in bold type.
I have details of many more Drings on file from the Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and numerous other
places. Please feel free to contact me and I will try to find out if there is a connection with the other Drings in my tree.

Generation 1
Willyam Dring (born c. 1633, Newark on Trent in Nottinghamshire, to Henry and Margaret?) married Roberta.
These were my 8xgreat-grandparents.
Their child:
Willyam Dring (chr 20 Nov 1670, Staunton, Nottinghamshire)
Generation 2
Willyam (William) Dring (b. 1670, Staunton, Nottinghamshire) married for the first time to Mary Harvy on 16
Mar 1696 at Orston.
Their children:
1. Wm Dring chr 6 Dec 1697, Orston [submitted IGI record], d. bef. 1710?
2. Thomas Dring chr 1 May 1700, Orston
3. Rebecca Dring chr 8 Sep 1703, Orston
4. George Dring chr 11 Nov 1705, Orston
5. Henry Dring chr 14 Dec 1706, Orston, d. bef. 1707?
6. Henry Dring chr 17 Mar 1707, Orston (uncertain if this is the same Henry as above, christened twice, or if he was
expected when Henry above was christened, who subsequently died)
7. Willm Dring chr 20 Apr 1710, Orston
8. Sarah Dring chr 1 Feb 1712, Orston
Willyam (William) Dring then married a second time to Mary Linford in 1714 at Orston. (This suggests that Mary
Harvy died somewhere in the two years following Sarah’s birth.)

1. Henry Dring chr 27 Jan 1714, Orston, d. c.1758)
2. Jane Dring chr 25 Oct 1717, Orston
3. Sarah Dring chr 22 Mar 1718, Orston
Generation 3
Henry Dring (b. c.1714, Orston, d. c.1758) married for the first time to Alice Skinner on 18 Nov 1741 at Orston. I have
not found any evidence that they had children. Henry married for the second time to Mary Wolton on 2 Nov 1746 at
Staunton. (Mary was possibly christened on 4 Jun 1727 at Fenton near Kesteven, Lincolnshire to William and Mary
Wolton.)

1. William Dring chr 5 May 1748, Orston; married Sarah Speed at Balderton on 20 Dec 1781
2. Jane Dring chr 23 Feb 1752, Orston, married John Gretton/Gratton at Bingham on 1 Dec 1777?
3. Henry Dring chr 14 Apr 1754, Orston
4. Thos. Dring chr 25 Dec 1755, Orston
5. Thos. Dring chr 18 Feb 1756, Orston [given the short time between the christenings of the two Thomas Drings, I
believe that possibly he is the same child baptised twice but for convenience, I will date him as c. 1756]
Generation 4
Thomas Dring (b. c.1756, Orston) married Eleanor Houghton (or Haughton) on 26 Nov 1781 at St. Mary the Virgin,
Bottesford, Leicestershire. Eleanor was described as “of Knipton” on the marriage record, but appears to have been
christened on 4 Apr 1759 at Bottesford to William Haughton and Ann Guy. Thomas Dring was buried on 12 Aug 1810 at
Bottesford and described as a labourer (as he was on his children’s baptism records, except for Elizabeth’s when a letter
“P” has been included) and aged 55. Eleanor was buried on 25 Oct 1838 at the same church. Her age was given as 85, and
her residence as Bottesford.

5. Elizabeth Dring chr 12 Oct 1793, St. Mary the Virgin, Bottesford
6. John Dring chr 25 Feb 1797, St. Mary the Virgin, Bottesford; bur 13 Jan 1822 at St. Mary the Virgin, Bottesford
7. Eleanor Dring b. 1 Mar 1801, chr 2 Mar 1801, St. Mary the Virgin, Bottesford
Generation 5
Sarah Dring (b. c.1782, Bottesford, d. 1863) was my 4xgreat grandmother through her marriage to Henry Castledine
(c.1788-1839) in 1808. Please follow the link for details of her family.
