To help genealogists hunting for ancestors in and around Clitheroe, Lancashire, I am in the process of transcribing gravestones. This is a work in progress and will be added to as I collect more data. Unfortunately, my own ancestors were not from my local area and consequently I cannot knowingly claim to be related to any of the names I have transcribed for this section - my relatives are from various other parts of Britain. Generally speaking, the information I have on these local names is confined to whatever details I have found in the churchyards.
I hope to add more information from St. Helen's Church in West Bradford. The page on Christ Church in Chatburn is not yet complete and as there are many graves in that churchyard dating up to the present day, for the time being, I am concentrating on the older graves first.
For information purposes, there is a large main cemetery on Waddington Road in Clitheroe (as well as a smaller one on the opposite side of the road) and the following churches (to the best of my knowledge) do not have graveyards:
St. James', St. James Street (Church of England)
St. Michael and St. John's, Lowergate (Roman Catholic)
St. Paul's, Low Moor (Church of England)
Trinity Methodist Church
United Reformed Church, Moor Lane
Regular visitors may notice that I have updated the title of this page. On my many travels around graveyards related to my family history, I collect details of gravestones with names that crop up in my family tree. Sometimes I find that I am related to them, other times I don't, but I am now adding a new page to this subsection, Miscellaneous Graves, in case they are of use to anyone else. They are not intended to be the start of any major coverage of the cemetaries or graveyards named, rather they are names I happen to have collected along the way.
