Hi Kate,
I came across your website by searching for "Castledine family" and was amazed to see two Castledines Joseph and Thomas from Croydon, Surrey as most are from Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire (as your family generally seem to be). I believe these are likely to be relatives of mine but I am finding it difficult to fit them into my family tree. Can you tell me any more about them? Who their parents and grandparents are for starters, and any information to link them back to the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire part of the family would be good as I've always suspected there would be a link there somewhere. All of the Castledines in my family were born or have a link to Surrey, and a number of them were born in Croyden hence my guess that Joseph and Thomas may fit in somewhere.

"I just wanted to add to the reply given by Kate ... my branch of the Castledine family was living in Croydon from about 1800. John Castledine and his wife Sarah Keene were married in Cobham in 1755 and had something like 7 children. I am descended from their eldest son, Benjamin. Their second son, Nathan, married Sarah Meager in Cobham, and they had 4 daughters and one son, William. Nathan and Sarah and family moved to Croydon around 1800, and William died there in 1870. " I too am a descendant of this Benjamin Castledine. Any further information you have would be gratefully received. Have you managed to go back any further than John Castledine and Sarah Keene?
