I was idly Googling my brother Matthew Scoffield when I got a link to your web site. Mt great grandfather came from Denton, Lincs. His name was Cecil, John Scoffield. I suppose there is a chance that he is related to the man who married Kate Skillington.

Hello Kate
Well done with your fantastic web site. It is a wonderful resource, you are to be congratulated. I have been helping my cousin Rodney Knowles to try and located some of his relatives in or from Yorkshire . He started in 1950 but as he does not use a computer he cannot take advantage of all the data now available online. The Yorkshire place his family came from are, Crayke, Escrick, Easingwold, Wigginton and Stillington We have managed to get back to John Siggs. Listed below are generations done to Rodney. John Siggs and wife Maria Hayr................................in Wigginton Letitia Hayr Siggs married John Knowles Walter Knowles Leslie Knowles Phillip Rodney Knowles We hope you may recognise these as being part of your extended Family Tree, please let us know. Keep up the great work, it helps all people doing genealogy Best wishes form down under in Melbourne Australia Leonard Pearsell and cousin Rodney Knowles

Hello,
I read on the Internet that you were a member of Ancestry.co.uk. Personally, I think this site is interesting but unfortunately the amount of the annual fee is exorbitant. It is too expensive ... Also, I dare ask, and what it will seem shocking but I wish you could to some research I need on my grandfather who lived and who died in your beautiful country. If I've offended or hurt, I would like to offer my sincere apologies. In the meantime, I'll give my email address: ericrondet1@yahoo.fr With many thanks in advance, Eric Rondet Friendly from France and Europa |

Greetings from America
While browsing through the Lancashire County surnames I found the surname Worsley in my Sergeant data. I Just ran into your site. I am back in time to the 1600's and before. I am trying to trace the family of Peter Sergeant of Newton, Co Lancashire, England. Turns out he emigrated to America in 1670's and was a Councilor for the Massachusetts Colony Charter, and famous Witch Trial Judge of Salem , MA in 1692.His father was Peter Sergeant of Newton le Willow, and Stand, Lancashire. They were related to Royalty. They hook up with Bradshaws, and were related to Sir Henry Ashurst, Lord Mayor and Treasurer of the King in London who was originally from Ashurst, Co Lancashire. They were eloborate Merchants of Clothiers and Drapers. The Sergeant's and Ashurst's go way back. But I thought I might tell you that one of Peter's Nieces married a Charles Worsley , and they at least, had a daughter Deborah Worsley, who m. a John Lees. I am sure there were other children of this couple with Ralph being a repeated common name in the Sergeant Clan. I suspect that your Ralph may be a descendant of Charles Worsley. I have not found any further instance's of these Worlsey's.. The Will of Peter Sergeant names neice & hisband, Charles Worsley, and his wife, Clemence (Sergeant)of Platt, Co Lancashire. . I did find an excerpt that they had at least one daughter that m. John Lees. I am hoping to find more out about them as I would like to know their connections further to the Sergeant's and if they came to America. It sound's like yours came later...Do you have anything predating Ralph Worsley from your site? Kind Regards, Penny Kresl

Hi Kate I am researching my family tree and wondered if you would be able to help me. The family I am researching are the Nowell's and I have traced them back to a John Nowell who married Catherine Tattersall at Downham on 9 April 1776. Both John and Catherine were buried at Downham, Catherine was buried on 30 December 1802 and John on 5 June 1811. I notice that they don't appear on your records for gravestones, but they do appear on the burial records. I know Catherine was baptism at Downham but there is no baptism record for John, which is where I've hit a brick wall. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Steve.

Hi Kate
I have just received the marriage cert for Ann Hurst & Henry Gaskell, if you would like a copy let me know & I will Email you a copy. I ordered a copy out of interest in the Gaskell line. My mother was a Gaskell prior to marriage and having done extensive research into this line discovered there was a very strong Ormskirk link. I was hoping that Henry Gaskell 1822 Ormskirk could be a relative, sadly no father is listed on his marriage cert. I have discovered that he was married prior to Ann Hurst to a Bridget Drinet they married 13 APR 1841 Saint Johns Old Haymarket, Liverpool, Lancashire, England Bridget's father was called Michael Drinet Burial: 15 Nov 1842 St Peter and St Paul, Ormskirk, Lancashire, England Bridget Gaskell - Age: 25 yrs Abode: Ormskirk Notes: Roman Catholic Register: Burials 1825 - 1843, Page 547, Entry 1977 Source: LDS Film 1849664 As you can see a very short marriage. Henry & Bridget do appear on the 1841 census together living in Chapel Lane Ormskirk I will order the first marriage cert to see if Henry has listed a father on that cert but as there is an extracted record on the IGI with only her father named, I suspect there is no father listed on that marriage cert either. I will let you know the outcome. Kind Regards Judi

Fascinated to see all these Bottesford connections. Glad you have found w.w.w.bottesfordhistory.org.uk We are currently trying to establish who lived on The Green in 1901 and have been following up Thomas Rawdin b 1873 'The Hero of Nitral's Nek.
As you probably know, the 'Poor Houses', Mount Pleasant and Bunker's Hill are different names for the same cottages.

I have all the members listed already but this site has 'tied a loose end up' on one of their offspring (my gt gt grandparants). My goal has been for years to find their place of burial. I dont understand how this site works and want to speak to the owner - any ideas please???
